Grundy County News April 2017
We held our annual “March for Meals” drive the week of March 21 through March 25th and the support throughout the community was wonderful! This was our big push for funds and support where we asked area Mayors, Village Presidents and dignitaries to help us serve our meals during the week well asking for monetary donations to further our efforts in funding our nutrition programs.
We would like to thank Mayor Pat Brennan of Minooka, Mayor Richard Kopczick of Morris, and Mayor Terry Kernc of Diamond, for coming out as well as our community partners, Karen Nall and Teddy Dow from United Way of Grundy County, Brent Newman Executive Director of Grundy County Housing Authority, Anne Williams of At Home Quality Care of Morris, Thomas Tesdal and Baily Fletcher from First Midwest Bank, Lindsey Leadinghouse and Deb Wyeth from the Grundy County Health Department and Patty Scates from The Gardens of Park Pointe in Morris who also came out to serve meals. Without “Community Champions” such as these we would not be able to serve the participants we have.
With our congregate meal program we have many opportunities for you to join us and have a hot nutritious meal for a great price! Look at our congregate meal menu for the dates, times and places showing where we will be during the month. We travel to Coal City, Mazon and Minooka, and even R Place in Morris! These meals are catered and cost $6.
We also serve a congregate lunch at Saratoga Towers in Morris Monday through Friday at 11:30 AM followed by Bingo (provided we have our minimum of 5 participants.) The cost for these meals depend on the day but is either a suggested donation of $3.50 or $6 per person. We do ask that you RSVP to 815-941-1590 by 9AM the day ahead so we are able to make sure we have enough food for everyone. We would love to keep our programming going so your continued support is requested so that we may continue in the future! Whistle Stop Café and R Place both provide a senior meal twice a month for $6. We also offer Great Plates meal coupons that are good for either R Place or Whistle Stop, and those are $6 each. They are usable at any time when you make your meal selection from their “Great Plates” menu. You use that coupon to pay for your meal and of course, please tip your wait staff.
Our next Monthly party at Saratoga Towers is Friday April 7th for our Spring Fling! You don’t have to live at the Towers to participate, just let us know you are coming and we’ll make sure to keep the door open for ya!
In addition, are looking for meal delivery drivers for our home delivered meal program. It could be one day a week, one day a month, or even one day a year whatever works for you. Please call Marge, Nancy or Patty at 815-941-1590 to inquire.
As always, thank you all who volunteer and participate with our programs. Without your support we couldn’t do what we do. Thank You!
